Synopsis
Mortal Kombat: Lost Tape is a short film set in New York City during the Christmas season. A woman brings a malfunctioning VCR to a local technician, and inside the machine a videotape is found jammed. Once repaired, the technician plays the tape and discovers a previously unseen VHS titled Mortal Kombat: Blood for Blood.
Blood for Blood is presented as a fictionalized Mortal Kombat pilot, imagined as an unreleased project created by Ed Boon and John Tobias, the original creators of the franchise.
Within this film-within-a-film, the Tenth Mortal Kombat Tournament is about to begin. An act of sabotage disrupts Shao Kahn’s forces, pushing him into a ruthless campaign to secure victory. In the chaos, a warrior of Earthrealm is killed and must be resurrected. Salvation comes through Ahriman, a spirit of chaos drawn from Persian mythology, who offers resurrection through a fatal exchange: blood for blood, soul for soul.
The project was created over a two-month period, with an average of twelve hours of work per day, and was fully produced and filmed in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Combining live-action and CGI through a ComfyUI-based AI workflow, the film explores hybrid cinema and AI-driven visual storytelling.
